The Last Plantagenet?: A ‘giddily romantic’ time-slip tale in the court of King Richard III Kindle Edition
The fireplace hadn't looked like a time-portal.
Nottingham, 2011
All Kate had wanted was a fun, relaxing day out, watching the knights jousting at Nottingham Castle. What she got with was something quite different.
Nottingham, 1485
Storm clouds are gathering around the court of Richard III.
Transported from one to the other in a heartbeat, how will Kate handle life at the Ricardian court? And more than that, how will she cope when she catches the eye of the king himself?
Find out in this “highly recommended” story, set just prior to the decisive Battle of Bosworth.

About the authors
Jennifer has been stalking dead monarchs since she was a child. It started with Mary, Queen of Scots, then moved onto Richard III. At least now it results in a story!
She won North Tyneside Libraries' Story Tyne short story competition in 2014 (no dead monarchs, but still not a cheerful read), and has been filling notebooks and hard-drives ever since. Her Kindred Spirits series, following the 'lives' of some very interesting ghostly communities, is published by Darkstroke, and her historical romances by Ocelot Press.
Jennifer is currently exploring some new ideas for historical romance, and hoping to visit Kindred Spirit friends old and new, north of the border...

- Reviewed in the United States on August 25, 2018I am a massive fan of historical fiction and I have read a couple of books that have the same type of storyline as this one and I was a bit dubious about them but I have to say that having read this one, it is definitely one of the best I have read so far – it was well written and I loved the interaction between the characters.
I would love personally to have been able to see what this period in time was like and the author has captured it brilliantly in this story. I thoroughly enjoyed it and it was a pleasure to read. I have read a few books by this author now and I have to say that she has an excellent way of bringing the past to life.
4.5 stars from me rounded up to 5 stars for Goodreads and Amazon – highly recommended!
- Reviewed in the United States on July 5, 2020Well darn the naysayers....I loved it. If you ever wondered what you would do if you could go back in time and be with your favorite monarch, then this is the book for you. I do wish it was longer but enjoyable fun just the same.

Was Richard III good? I don't remember that or was I wrapped up in Shakespeare?
The Good
Fantasy at its best. If you can't wait for Horrible Histories and love it when your children watch it.... you will love this. Dr. Who come sexy romance.
The Bad
I am not sure the facts were correct in the book - but this is great fiction and escapism that I enjoyed.
The Ugly
I could have read more. This is a lovely novella - but it could have been a lot more with juicier bits too! Not that I wanted more romping... (well maybe!)
4 Stars - I read this as part of a blog tour. Also published on Goodreads and my blog Six Tinder Weeks.

"What a delightful novella. A quick read - about an hour and a half - but one that certainly gives plenty and lingers long after you’ve finished."

- Reviewed in the United States on August 23, 2018I chose to read this book after receiving a free e-copy. All opinions in this review are my own and completely unbiased.
Kate knows a lot about King Richard III and when she falls into a fireplace at Nottingham Castle and travels back to 1485, she gets to learn about him firsthand. I enjoyed reading about what happened in the time before the king was killed as well as how the author portrays him. Since we don’t know how he really was, it was nice to see him portrayed in a positive and romantic light.
It’s a shame this novella wasn’t longer but it’s still good. I especially liked the ending.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 18, 2018Felt like it was just getting started when it wrapped everything up that was a little disappointing to me c
- Reviewed in the United States on August 13, 2018Felt more like a preview than a full novel or novella. I'm extremely let down; perhaps Outlander raised my expectations for time travel romances too high.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely little novella!
Gorgeous short story, surrounding Kate and her time travelling adventure to the court of Richard III! Really well written, and can see a TV adaptation of this working nicely! This is the 2nd story from Miss Wilson featuring Richard III, and although I did enjoy her other book, this was a more smooth read for someone with limited royal history knowledge like myself!!
Would definitely recommend a read, thoroughly enjoyable!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable enough?
Ok, first of all - whilst I did question it whilst reading I did enjoy it. I did find the plot and the way the main character and Richard came to be, was a little... contrived. That said, by the end of it I was accepting of the relationship. It did read a little bit as "fanfiction", but overall I was impressed. Give it a try, at the very least to try the authors other (more) worthy stories.

4.0 out of 5 stars Back in time
A good timeslip story - slightly longer than a short story but perhaps not long enough for a novella. Kate finds herself back at the court of Richard the Third and as a history buff she knows he's not as black as he's been painted. So when she catches his eye she's flattered .. but it's not long till the Battle of Bosworth and she knows how that will end ...
As a historical writer, Jennifer C Wilson knows her stuff and we see an intriguing picture of life in the 1400s. I found it a little too short - I would have liked to get to know the characters better and see them develop over more time, but it's a good read and i would recommend it.

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable romp through the court of Richard 3 just before Boswell.
One needs not to look to closely for any Historical content but this is a Fantasy piece. It is fun to read and well written if the writing and attitudes are a little to modern in places.
Suppress your Historical nodules and enjoy the ride.

5.0 out of 5 stars Modern day Cinderella meets Richard III
You know you’re in safe hands quite quickly into this novella. The story is written with the confidence of someone who knows her history and yet manages to weave the background and set the scene without the information ‘dump’ that could have brought such a short tale down. It’s time travel, so of course you have to suspend belief, but do that and you, like Kate, will enjoy falling in love with Richard.
